Youth Classes & Private Instruction

As an NRA Certified Instructor, Maryland State Police Handgun Certified Handgun Instructor and an avid shooter for more than 35 years, RIFLE AND REEL ADVENTURES has developed training courses that build on on the NRA teaching methods with an emphasis on safety.  Our firearm training courses for Rifle, Shotgun and Handgun I will help you acquire the education and develop the skills needed for precision use and handling of your guns.

We offer any and all of our classes just for kids ages 8 - 17.  These classes range fom the NRA First Steps pgrogram, designed for anyone who has never handled a gun, rifle, or shotgun before, to the NRA Basic courses for rifle, shotgun and upland game hunting.

Classes are offered in the times allotted below.  Private Instruction is always available.  Just call to schedule some time.

NRA Certified Courses

First Steps Rifle Orientation


This course is a hands on introduction to safe handling and proper orientation to a one specific rifle action.  This class is perfect for new purchasers of rifles, someone interested in trying the sport or children's first class. 

Course Description: In this three (3) hour long class you will learn the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe use of a rifle.  This includes:


  • This course is at least 3-hours long and includes classroom and range time
  • Learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the rifle; and continued opportunities for skill development.
  • Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, and Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet and the FIRST Steps Complete
  • Take a First Steps Course Completion Examination and receive a course certificate upon completion.
